Over 10,000 attend His Holiness'
talk in Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain, AP/Phayul: His
Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, opened
a new Tibet House Foundation headquarters on Tuesday as part of a
three-day visit to Spain.
His Holiness cast flower petals and blessed every room in the building
before meeting representatives of the Spain's Tibetan community and
members of the foundation.
His Holiness exchanged khatas - white silk scarves - with many of those
who clamoured to see him on his first visit to Barcelona in 10 years.
His Holiness thanked the foundation and the Tibetan community in Spain
for sending money and medical supplies to refugee camps in India and
Tibet. The foundation sends about $22 000 a year to help the residents of
the camps, the foundation's leader, Thubten Wangchen, said.

Later His Holiness met with the archbishop of Barcelona, Lluis Martinez
Sistachs, at the city's Episcopal Palace. The men discussed "matters
relating to spiritualism and the need for interfaith dialogue, as well as
collaboration between Catholics and Buddhists," Martinez Sistachs
said.
Earlier on, more than 10,000 people converged to listen to His Holiness
the Dalai Lama's public talk on The Art of Happiness at Palau Sant Jordi,
the Olympic stadium.

His Holiness emphasized on promotion of inter-religious harmony saying
that having close relation on the basis of mutual understanding and
respect is highly necessary particularly at present time as sometimes more
conflict and division among humanity happen due to different religious
faiths which is very unfortunate, reports Phayul Online website.
His Holiness thanked and appreciated the concern for Tibet, adding
"Tibetans are going through a difficult period and reiterated his
stand for meaningful autonomy within the Chinese constitution which is
best guarantee for rich Tibetan culture and environment".
His Holiness encouraged people to visit Tibet and see for themselves
the condition there and compare it with what the Communist China
propagates.
His Holiness today will leave Barcelona for a 4-day visit to Lisbon,
Portugal.
