Obituary: Mr. Phurbu Sithar

22 February, TibetNet: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA)
mourns the passing away of Mr. Phurbu Sithar, deputy secretary of Tibet
Information Office in Canberra, Australia.
As a mark of respect, the CTA offices remained closed yesterday
afternoon after an hour-long prayer session for the peace of his departed
soul.
After a prolonged illness Mr. Sithar passed away on 18 February, which
coincided with the first day of the Losar (Tibetan New Year). He was 56
years old.
He was born in 1951 in Tibet. He came to India in 1959 and joined the
Central School for Tibetans, Bylakupee in 1962. After his high school
graduation, he joined Don Bosco Technical School in Shillong, Assam.
Mr. Sithar served the exile Tibetan Administration for over two
decades. He joined the CTA's service on 1 March 1984 as Junior Office
Secretary at the Tibetan Self-help Handicraft Centre, Shimla.
In 1987, he was transferred to Paonta Cholsum settlement in Himachal
Pradesh.
In 1992, he was promoted to the post of Office Superintendent at the
Tibetan Self-help Handicraft Centre, Shimla and later to the Section
Officer's post in 1993 as a settlement officer of Paonta Cholsum
settlement.
In 1996, he was promoted to Under Secretary and then to Deputy
Secretary in 1999.
From 1996 to 2001 he served as the settlement officer of Dickyi Larsoe
Tibetan settlement in India.
At the same post, on 27 August 2001, he was deputed to the Tibet
Information Office in Canberra, Australia.
In 2006, he was promoted to Joint Secretary, but Mr. Sithar refused the
promotion.
The Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) sent a
condolence message to his family members.
In the message, the DIIR offers its prayers for his soul and expressed
its appreciation for his service to the exile Tibetan Administration at
this critical stage of our struggle.
Mr. Sithar is survived by his wife and four daughters and one son.
