Kalon Tripa to attend US
congressional gold medal ceremony
Dharamshala, 8 October, TibetNet: Kalon
Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche will leave Dharamshala on 9 October for a two-week
visit to the United States.
Kalon Tripa is scheduled to arrive in US capital Washington, DC on 11
October.
On 12 October, Kalon Tripa will meet the officials of State Department
in Washington to discuss on the issue of Tibetan settlement revitalisation
plan. It is expected that officials of International Campaign of Tibet (ICT)
and Tibet Fund will also attend the meeting.
Next day, on 13 October, Kalon Tripa will address a conference of
Tibetan university students in New York and give a keynote lecture on the
future of Tibetan movement and the role of youth.
Kalon Tripa will be engaged in other important meetings from 14 to 16
October in Washington DC.
On 17 October, Kalon Tripa will attend the official ceremony of the
conferment of highest civilian honorary award, the US congressional Gold
Medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Capitol Hill. US President
George W Bush will present the gold medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The US House of Repesentatives and the Senate passed a bill on 13
September last year to award the congressional gold medal to His Holiness,
in recognition of the His Holiness many enduring and outstanding
contributions to peace, nonviolence, human rights and religious
understanding.
Later in the day, Kalon Tripa will address the Tibetan community in
Washington, DC.
On 23 October, Kalon Tripa will give keynote Dharampal memorial lecture
organised by the Society for Integrated Development of Himalaya (SIDH) in
New Delhi.
Kalon Tripa will return here on 24 October.
